The MR40Z Scene Remote (800 Series) firmware V8.2 is now available. This page covers what changed, whether you should update, and how to flash it over the air (OTA) from your hub.
1. Should you update?
If your remote is working fine, you don’t have to update right away. But V8.2 fixes real issues reported by users, so we recommend it if you’ve seen any of these:
| Your situation | Will V8.2 help? |
|---|---|
| Remote feels laggy or drops commands on busy Z-Wave networks | Yes - network stability improvements |
| Remote disconnects or stops responding until re-paired | Yes - connectivity fixes |
| Scene buttons need extra presses, or single press fires twice | Yes - reporting and multi-press fixes |
| Everything works normally | Optional - update at your next convenient time |
2. What’s new in V8.2
- Improved overall Z-Wave network stability
- Fixed connectivity issues reported on earlier firmware
- Optimized device reporting and resolved potential multi-press issues
3. Before you update
- Check your current firmware version first (Hubitat: device page shows firmware; Home Assistant: Z-Wave JS device page > Firmware).
- Insert fresh batteries. A dying battery is the #1 cause of failed OTA updates on battery devices.
- Keep the remote within a few meters of the hub during the update.
- This file is for the MR40Z 800 Series only. If you have the MR40Z 700 Series, do not use this file - see the 700 Series firmware topic instead.
4. How to update (OTA)
Hubitat Elevation
- Open your MR40Z device page and click Firmware (Device Firmware Updater).
- Select the downloaded
.gblfile and start the update. - Press any button on the remote periodically during the transfer to keep it awake.
Home Assistant (Z-Wave JS / Z-Wave JS UI)
- Open the MR40Z device page, expand the Firmware update (OTA) control.
- Upload the
.gblfile and confirm. - Keep the device awake by pressing any button during the process.
SmartThings
SmartThings does not support third-party Z-Wave OTA updates. If your MR40Z shows issues that V8.2 addresses, contact us at ask@minoston.com and we will arrange a replacement or a hub-side workaround.
Other controllers
Any Z-Wave controller with OTA support (Z-Wave JS UI standalone, Zooz Z-Station / Silicon Labs PC Controller) can flash the same .gbl file. Select the device, choose firmware update, upload the file, and keep the remote awake.
5. If something goes wrong
- Update stalls at 0% or mid-transfer: the remote fell asleep. Press any button to wake it; the transfer resumes.
- Firmware version didn’t change after a “successful” update: run the update once more. This usually means the device slept through part of the transfer.
- Remote won’t respond at all after the update: press and hold a button for 5 seconds to wake it, then try again. If it’s still dead, re-pair it to the hub.
- Still stuck: email ask@minoston.com with your hub type and the firmware version shown before the update.
