Only if the model is built for it. Our outdoor lineup is the MP22Z and the MP22W family (MP22W, MP22WP, MP22WH, MP22WD). Those are designed for outdoor receptacles, rated IP65 on the product page, and meant to be installed on a covered, GFCI-protected outlet.
Indoor plugs (MP21Z, MP21ZP, MP24Z, MP31Z and similar) are for indoor use. They will physically work outside for a while, but rain, UV and temperature swings will kill them, and the warranty does not cover that.
Two practical points for outdoor installs:
- Mount it under cover. “Outdoor rated” means it tolerates weather, not that it should sit in standing water or a direct downpour.
- Range matters more outside. If the outlet is far from the house, an 800 series model with a compatible controller gets you Z-Wave Long Range, which is the difference between a stable link and one that drops every storm.
